Welcome back, It’s 2007!!!!!!!!!!! February 15, 2007

      Welcome back to a whole new year all you bloggers out there! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas break and a fantastic New Years Eve!  Well we are back to another year, I hope your 2006 was went just as good as mine, I had a fantastic year!

     But as it is 2007 I have even more things to look forward to, starting year 9, choosing electives in school, new teachers, band performances, wonderful camps to look forward to and loads more.

    It has only been a few weeks back into school and it is already getting hectic, I mean it was the first week back at school and my homework section in my diary was as full as it’s ever been! Not to mention all the band rehearsals I have had, witch I enjoy immensely, but this year I have been asked to do V.C.E. music so there’s even more songs to learn. If you didn’t know already, I play the clarinet. I started learning the clarinet in year 7 and I am in the school band which is fantastic, we march as a band in the Anzac Day march in the city, which will be coming up soon!

    Well I better get going, tomorrows Friday, last day of school for the week! I am really looking forward to this weekend as it is the Maroondah Festival and I am going to be on duty with St. John Ambulance in the morning, then I will have a good look around the festival in the afternoon,(I will tell you more about what I get up to at the festival in another post).

       So there is loads of things you can read about on my blogs whether it’s a piece of my work or just a blog on my day or weekend. Be more than happy to leave comments on my blogs, I like to her about what other people think of my posts or about something interesting you want to tell me, that’s fine I would love to hear.

Statement of Intention February 1, 2007

   1/02/07                                          

      This year in English I would really like to learn more words and their meanings, learn to spell more words, learn to write better essays, learn how to write more expressive pieces of work, debate different topics, understand novels more and write great reviews on novels and film. These are all the things I would really like to achieve in 2007. I am able to do these things already, but would like to further my skills and knowledge in them. In every aspect of English I would like to do my best, to work to my full ability and that is all I can ever ask of myself.    

      I am really looking forward to this year and hope I will be able to use all of my English skills in new ways. English is a subject that I really enjoy because you get to express your thoughts in a different way and most of all you can be imaginative!

     Today in English we got to watch my movie! I know a lot of my friends were anxious to see it so they were just as exicited as I was. Everyone really enjoyed it and I was very proud of my efforts.   

The Finish Of My Movie! Wed. Nov. 29 2006 December 5, 2006

      I finished filming! I then added some bloopers and transpositions to the movie.  After editing it on Windows Movie Maker, by dropping each scene onto the story board, I then had to find a way to transfer my movie onto a DVD. The only problem was that when I transferred the movie onto a DVD, it would only play the contents of the movie on the computer I had made it on. This was a big problem because I had no idea how I was going to give it to my teacher as it wouldn’t even play when I transferred it onto my memory stick! I phoned a neighbour, who has done some work on Windows Movie Maker so she was a perfect person to call. She didn’t understand why it wasn’t working so she told me to come down to her place. When I got there we tried it on her laptop and it wouldn’t even recognize it, so we tried it on her home computer. It recognized the DVD, but the contents of the movie would not show or play. We both agreed that it might have been the way I saved it, so she told me another way I should save it, then I would be able to go into the program that I was using and burn the movie onto  a DVD. I went home and tried just that and guess what, it worked!

       Making this movie was so much fun, a great learning experience and challenge as I had never done anything like this before! I came across Windows Movie Maker on my computer not long after we received this assignment. I had no idea how to use it or what it did, so I played around with it and worked out how to get some movie scenes on it and music. When I saw that I could do this, I thought I would try and make a movie for my imaginative assignment for English as a challenge for myself and to do something different that I had never done before.

     Doing this movie was a great success, I have now learnt how to do so much more. I now know how to make movies, edit them and burn them onto DVD’S! I can’t wait until I get another chance to do something like this again!           

Music For Movie: Saturday Nov.18 2006 December 3, 2006

    This weekend I went to the shops to find a ‘Simple Plan’ CD for some songs that I would use on my movie for English. I could not find the CD I was after, as it was out quite a while ago. I tried at K-mart and Target and could not find it. Then I tried Sanity and they had one album left with the song”I’m just a kid” on it . The only problem was that the other song ,”Welcome to my life”, which I also  wanted to use ,was on a different ‘Simple Plan’ album! So I ended up buying both albums! I worked out how to place the music on the parts of my movie using the program Windows Movie Maker, and slotted the music onto my story board located down the bottom of Movie Maker.

English Assignment: Saturday Nov.4 2006 November 7, 2006

     Started filming first scene of movie with digital camera using characters and objects. Needed to reflim some spots to blend in better. Using what I had shot, I am now able to search for the best sections to be used for the beginning of the film. 

    I have also found two pieces of music appropriate to my movie, with the view to capture an audience similar to my own age. I am now in the process of incorporating this music into the first scene. I would also like to use some of the songs on my clarinet for further scenes in the film.   

English Assignment: Friday Nov. 3 2006 November 7, 2006

     Today I was really excited as I went to the library and borrowed books on magic to help with some of the effects and illusions for my assignment. After looking through several books I came across some that involved objects that I could use. I  learned and practised some of the tricks and made a list of what I would need to achieve these.    

The plan for my ‘imagination assignment’! November 7, 2006

    In English our assignment is to construct a narrative based around everyday objects or places in imaginative or extraordinary ways. I have decided to do a short film based in my street and home with my family as characters. The beginning of the film is set as my sister and I return home from school, only to find that our house had been replaced with a dolls house! On entering the home, several everyday objects are not what they seem, for example the coat hanger comes to life, fairies appear from  drink glasses, bedroom turns into a funpark and characters turn into stuffed toys. Everything seems exciting and different until it is found that an evil spell has to be reversed.      
 

“The Internet Stole My Childhood” October 28, 2006

   

     The internet. People use it everyday now, for work, school, shopping and for free time, just to name a few uses. It can be useful in some ways,for example, a new reference source instead of using books, but that can have its downs as anyone can make a website on the internet ,so the information you find out may not be as factual as you think. The internet can also be very frustrating and in some cases a very time wasting piece of technology. When using books you can  find the pages of information that you want, but when using the internet there are so many sites to choose from and half the time you don’t know if what you are reading is true or not. The internet can be a good way to communicate to each other as you can send emails, or talk on messenger.What though , has happened to the joy of talking to a friend on the phone or indeed in person? Using the internet can also be very unsafe as on chat sites. You don’t know who you are talking to as they are complete strangers that might say they are 14 years old, but they might just be a 40 year old criminal! The internet also has a bad influence on children these days as some games on the internet can be very violent and inappropriate. These games take up a whole lot of the child’s time, when they could be outside playing games with their friends. The games also give some children the wrong idea on how they should act. Children, and adults may think that being violent like on the internet is ok in society, which can cause heaps of problems. 

      Well as you can see, the internet does have its good side and it also has a bad side. I personally think we would be better off without the internet as it just troubles people, and sometimes puts a whole lot of unnecessary stress on families.People these days spend way to much time using the internet. I know when my mother and father were my age they didn’t have computers, and they turned out just fine. They have said to me that when they were my age they had a lot of time to play outside after homework,but  instead these days people use the internet because it is there to use and it  is to most people  more interesting than  a book. Reading a book is a wonderful experience that is lost reading the internet .It just isn’t the same.I think time is mostly wasted on all the different things the internet has to offer, as once you have read what you need there are loads more sites and advertisements that make people more interested in the internet than the enjoyment of a  good old book and having some old fashioned fun! You only get one chance at childhood and it is a time ,in my opinion,when you get to play with toys, play games, read books, play sports and explore the marvelous outdoors!
